FAMILY HISTORY..
Thought I would share because it's intersting...
My Great,Great,Great Grandfather William F Havemeyer happended to be Mayor of New York for 3 terms..
My family was also part of the sugar refining industry in the 1800's-to early 1900's Located in New York as well... Havemeyer and Elder as it was called actually had a monopoly and controlled most of the sugar in the United States at the time..
Other members of the Havemeyer family went on to become great art collectors (i.e. The great HO Havemeyer Collection) Considered by many to be the best art collection of any time. And today hundreds of original works by Monet, Cassat, Degas etc. reside mainly in the Metropolitan Museum of art, where there are 4-5 rooms of art donated by Mrs H.O. Havemeyer.
