Based in Cambridge in England, and in my early 30s, I'm still a beginner at photography. I've been taking snaps since I was a teenager, but didn't get into anything more than simply recording holidays until I got my first digicam in 2003. That was a little Fuji 601, and a similar pocket camera still serves me well for the times I don't want to carry anything bigger.
I bought a Canon 300D in early 2005 for general use, but also to accompany me caving. That's not only an unforgiving environment for a camera, but it's also unhelpful for auto-focus and requires a good understanding of flash lighting (which I don't yet have!). So I'll be looking for help in squeezing good results out underground.
My workflow is generally using Gimp on Linux, with photos in Raw format (underground) or 3M for other shots, but sometimes varying by subject. I usually apply some Curves correction, perhaps a contrast mask if the dynamic range is a nuisance, and occasionally some unsharp on hazy photos or extra saturation on muddy ones.
I have a gallery on Fotopic which is largely documentary, but also includes some images for art's sake.
