I was born and grew up in Belfast, N. Ireland. The oil industry took me around the world to lots of interesting places and I finally settled in Houston, Texas. I have been taking snaps for more years than I care to admit; first with a Yashica Minister, then an Ashi Spotmatic before moving on to the Pentax MX and ME. Several years ago I sold the Pentax and purchased an Olympus C-2100 UZ. Although only 2 MP, that camera had a wonderful 10x optical zoom with image stabilization. IMHO it took better pictures than some current digitals with many more pixels. I progressed to an Olympus E-10 with 4 MP and another wonderful lens. That camera still has capabilities much beyond my aptitude and the digital format let me quickly erase all those shots that dont meet even my limited quality standards.
I recently returned to the Pentax fold with a K10D. Now, I have more pixels, buttons and dials than I know what to do with. I have ultimate control over the image capture and nobody to blame except myself when things dont go as planned. (I admit that great photographs really are made by people and not by equipment - but don't tell my wife that.)
Like many in this group I have read the books and magazines and I know what I should be doing. My hope is that one day my technical capabilities will not lag so far behind my artistic aspirations. Thats why I enjoy this site, receiving critiques and looking at the work of other people. Maybe one day Ill manage shots like them! :-)
