I live and work in Leiden, The Netherlands. I've been in amateur photography since I was a student. Started in B+W for the dark room thrill, but when the kids got more time-demanding, retreated to mostly family and vacation shots. After meeting old Abe in 2002 I bought myself a digital SLR. Boy, was I impressed with the capabilities of this new toy! The added functionality and the instant feedback triggered that slumbering itch to wish to record all striking moments in life. Now I am here at PhotoSIG, sharing and enjoying your impressions of this ever-changing world. I hope you will enjoy mine.
Despite most of my photos uploaded here were made with my DSLRs, I've never entirely stopped shooting film. I still possess all of my old film cameras or I bought them back now that their prices on the second hand market are so cheap.
I like to shoot B&W film with a couple of classic rangefinder cameras that I started collecting a few years ago. They are beautiful mechanical-optical instruments that were made to last and after 50 years still look and function like they came out of the box yesterday. After digital-auto-everything, having to think again about exposures and camera settings is surprisingly refreshing.
Check out my classic camera collection here.
Travel and Farah (check out my websites) are two of my other hobbies.
I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of responses that our submissions receive lately. Is it that difficult to write up some 15 words after opening a thumbnail? Also, I lately see quite a few members who seem to be only interested in receiving critiques on their own photos, but who hardly take the trouble to critique on someone else's photos. That's why I've decided to only critique photos from members with a critique/photo ratio of 3 or higher.
Thanks for your critiques of photos in my portfolio. I'm an active lobbyist. I'll respond to each honest critique and award it with a TU, and in return I'll try to critique an entry in your portfolio.
