To make it simple, you can get good contrast B&W is two ways. 1 - With really good lighting. 2 - Good contrast in RGB colors and using appropriate filters before shooting or during post processing. Lighting is flat and bad here. Neither there is contrast on the colors. You can push the contrast in photoshop, play with the curves but there is also this notion of perceived contrast. Different grey values which are farther apart need to mix and match well in the image so that...

Sky in general looks dramatic with the clouds and a little contrast change as it is done here. No photoshop required for that. Such clouds are too easy to find and that part doesn't impress me. The contrast is higher but less greys. The tonal spread is less and it is not technically good. Moreover the dark right corner doesn't fit harmoniously.
The statue as a dramatic silhouette works to some extent. What I like about the composition is the majestic feel you give it...

I like this view of the wine glass. Almost gives a sense of a Klein bottle. This would look great with a clean class. The particles and other imperfections like finger prints doesn't work. Colors seem nice but the lighting is dull and flat. Other compositions at the left or at the top removing the stem looks interesting to try.

I adore the colors here. Well contrasting and split. There is positive mood here. Green somehow spiritual and red, yellow optimistic. The vertical format with the square at the top is strong. The OOF lines adds a little bit of texture which is good. Would be more pure without the dark spot at the top. But.. might not have been controllable. Regards, Jay.

Hi Alan, I like the fresh feel in the pic. Flowers and leaves contrasts well with the road. I might go for a deeper DOF or change my focus at the flowers. The BG and the wheel etc. doesn't add anything significant to the pic and I might crop them.

Hi Tom, I like the randomness of the drop size and placement here. Interesting moires and distortion of the pixels which are different in each drop. Split colors in the drops goes well with the BG. A couple of speck that looks like dust could be avoided. Too tiny drops? Regards, Jay.

Hi Hang, one thing I like about this picture is its scale.. with the city outline. But the composition is not interesting and the framing of the tress is distracting. The muted colors and the foggy details have a dull effect which doesn't go well with expected drama. Regards, Jay.

Hi Tom, this doesn't remind me of Pollock. Visually there is a lot of difference between Pollock's paint drips and this. The scratches don't make an interesting composition too. And the softness at the bottom doesn't work with the texture either.
If lighting or lens doesn't allow for a wider DOF, you may try to align the camera parallel to surface so that the whole frame is in focus.
And talking of Pollock... I think the main significance of his works is the use of a...

I like the contrast between the plant and rust. Colors match very well too. This composition doesn't work for me. I would have removed those three rivets at the right and composed differently with the plant and the sector.. being more like that of a sun in some telescopic shots of plants.

Hi David, I like this pic very much. Good choice of focus and DOF. Aptly composed. Green against the greys works so pleasantly. The top left corner seems distracting but I think it suits the subject well. Thanks for sharing.

This is a brilliant architectural image with all those complex geometrical elements composed in harmony. I like the way shadows form a major part of the image. Lighting here is good but with a better zonal contrast and range, this would stand out very well.

This is one of those photos which I envy. There are so many abandoned room pics nowadays but few of them stand out. The vacant mood here is brilliant. Lighting also makes a subtle but an apt element. The lampshade is well composed and the peeled paper behind it adds more to the pic.
I am not sure about the composition at the top though. One easy alternative is to make this more minimal by cropping the verticals at the top and slightly reposition the shade accordingly....

Hi Andres, Gothic moon is one my fav photo of yours. Nice to see another version of it. In one way, I like this version more. The moon looks more abstract. Colors are also vivid in this one. But the discontinuous rust line at the bottom which is missing here, fails to give that landscape feel. The triangle at the BRC is distracting and compositionally, TLC looks vacant. Overall, it is a nice experience appreciating and documenting small changes over time.

the textures are lovely and the OOFness of the BG works for me. Just that there is not enough of it in the frame and the composition here looks pretty vacant. Choosing a BG with more colors might work very well with this water drops texture.

It is always a pleasure to look at these images where many unbalanced elements are composed to give a balanced pic as a whole. The colors are fresh and lively and so is the texture. BLC and few regions appear soft and distracting.
