Hey Nico,
I'm digging the vintage look. Good perspective on the buildings without any apparent lens distortion and, as far as I can make out through the intentional grain, good focus throughout. The only thing I'd add is that I would have liked to have seen more of the street level with some figures in there for perspective, but it may have been pushing it without a wider angle lens. I'd love to know how you achieved the "weathered" look. Will have to check out your...

Hi Salvatore,
I'm no expert in HDR, but then I'm not a big fan of it either as it's almost always completely overdone. It looks like a good first effort, but the effect has been over-cooked here in my opinion. I think too many people see the exaggerated HDR result as a style in itself, where really it should be about nothing more than increasing detail across the exposure. But hell, I'm no expert! I'd love to see you do more of this kind of thing but toning down the...

Hi Art,
I personally don't have a problem with the blue cast as it lends a certain stylised look to the picture. I only really have two suggestions; firstly, and it may just be me, the horizon seems ever so slightly distorted and in need of a little lens correction in PS. But as I say, it may just be me. Secondly I'd like to have seen some interest in the middle to background, say a figure or boat on the shoreline or in the sea. Otherwise I really like your shot. Keep...

Hi Leah. Nice silhouette of the fearsome Apache Longbow! I'd have cropped in from the left a little to even it up though. I do like the photo, but it's just lacking a special "something" to set it off. Maybe see if they'll loose off a few rockets for you or give you a burst from the cannon next time! :)

Hi Gal. An interesting idea, but I don't think it has really worked. It just looks like the giraffes have been masked and then the sky either replaced or washed out via levels. The lighting is different on both giraffes also, so would I be right in my guess that these are from two different photos? I'd say the crop is too close on the right with no room at the edge of the frame as well. I'd be interested to see the original untouched photo(s) for comparison, but I'm afraid...

HI Jean-Pierre. I love the overall look and feel of the photo, with a couple of minor reservations. I would agree with the other user's comments about the sky, and I would also take issue with the actual figure and bike which look to me like they have either been overly-sharpened and/or composited in from another picture. I may be wrong as it's very difficult to tell at a lower reolution. Otherwise I think your photo is great. Thanks for sharing!

I don't have a problem with the white spots at all; in fact I think they add to the dream-like quality of this image. I wouldn't be tempted to mess with the hair either as I like the natural look and texture of it within the context of the environment. This is the kind of mood I'd love to be able to capture in a portrait. The focus isn't spot on, but it's about the only thing I could find fault with. Well done.

Hey Lucas,
I do like the shot, but for me a couple of elements stop if from receiving 2TU. Firstly the sky is too bland; while this forces emphasis on the ship I still feel a bit of cloud detail would have set it off perfectly. Secondly (and it's difficult to tell at this size) I think it looks as if it has been overly sharpened.
Otherwise a great capture. I will be checking out your other shots!
Regards,
Craig

Hey Jennifer. I have to be honest and say that athough I like the thinking behind this there are a lot of elements that conspire to ruin it.
First up I would have ditched the text. Adding text to the actual body of a photograph defeats the purpose of the photo itself; ie. the images themselves convey the many moods of Grant without any need for explanation. If you were set on adding text I would have placed it outside the frame at the bottom, probably offset to one side...

I know it was taken at f2.8, but to me this still looks like you've tried to apply a tilt and shift focus effect in post processing, which hasn't really worked. Which noise filter are you using? It's a shame it hasn't worked out because with a different crop this could have been a lovely natural moment.

I think a closer crop of just the open flower heads on the left would have worked better. It looks like there are a couple of spots of over saturation in the bottom centre section; perhaps too much contrast adjustment? Difficult to tell at this size, but it looks as if the focus could have been a little sharper. Definitely on the right track though George!

I really like the geometry and composition of this shot. The choice of tone complements the rigid, uniform nature of the construction, although a variety of different crops would be really interesting to see. This almost plays out like an optical illusion. Can I ask where it was taken, Tarmo? Great shot.

Hi Sonia. I always feel like "who am I to pass judgement", but this one isn't working for me at all. I can see what you were aiming for, but the result just isn't right. It looks to me like you've simply isolated this girl's figure from an existing photograph which has been lit badly by flash, flooded the background with white and then yanked the levels way up in Photoshop. Had the balance been better in your subject (and she is a pretty wee thing!) it might have been...

Hi Chris. I agree. This is a great shot. Perhaps a little burning in of the sky might have helped, but otherwise I doff my hat to you sir! I particularly love the colour of that sea. Wicked stuff.

Hey Stuart. I really like where you're going with this one. The focus, d.o.p. and detail are grand. I only have two observations. One is that the sky seems a little washed out, although you've metered very well overall. I assume this has been a blend of two exposures? With so much space dedicated to the cloud I think it needs a little more detail, but some quick burning would sort that. I'm also convinced that the horizon is a little uneven and drops a couple of degrees...
