The definition in this hawk's the plumage couldn't have been caught better, Tue, with a bold f stop for the focus, and y luck with that great lighting against a perfect backdrop to stand this handsome guy out. Pity about the overly bright talons but that"s a small nit about a wonderful capture - well done! this is almost like a book illustration!

Hi, Edwin. Glad to see you have been able to photograph my favorite duck! The head whites are tough to deal with in direct sunlight, but the focus here is excellent, and I really like the frontal plumage and eye detail you've managed to capture, as well as your timing to get that unusual pose - I presume this guy had just emerged from a dive? There are 40 or so Mandarins already hugging the shadows of the far bank of our local lake but too shy to allow close photos yet,...

As Tue rightly says, Joyia, it's always good to be catching a bird "doing something" (instead of just sitting on a stick looking cute) and you caught this one doing something in mid air to add to the difficulty. Would like to have seen more of a wing spread, but good timing on this shot! John.

Hi, Jon. You have caught this attractive little guy in his prime and in great light to bring out the salient plumage features of this species, and against a nicely blurred BG. I would crop a tad from the top, and clone out the in focus bristly part of the stump at his feet, but that's me. Nice shot! John.

Just love the candle lighting here, Vladimir, and the exposure and your good timing to catch this old lady in a moment of concentration. The mood, and action, is timeless. The only thing that bothers is the man in the background - unfortunate he was there, but maybe a crop from the top would lessen the distraction.

Quite stunning, Tue! Have you got this Kestrel tamed? Even in captivity, it would be hard to get a shot of this high quality. Interesting that you were able to get the attractive top of the tail, and get the underside of the wings. Whites may be a tad strong for my taste, but the pose, and the plumage definition caught is wonderful! Interesting info on opening up the lens. Great shooting! John.

Beautiful portrait, Jonathan. I really like the plumage detail you've frozen in this image, and you got this guy to pose nicely for you. Great complementary background, and nicely composed. Well done!

Looks like you got the right DOF to get both of these swans in focus, Michael. Just unfortunate that you couldn't separate them!

This house really lends itself to a halloween setting, and you took good advantage of it, Sebastian. But a burning cat? No! Better to set the sky on fire, put Jack Nicolson in there, or turn this whole scene into a night time setting. The house is great, but the cat's gotta go!

A pity you had to take this quickly, Steven, this is one gorgeous model and she looks as though she's set for a studio photograph. The flaws have been mentioned, and I agree about a larger DOF for a better focus, and cropping down, but not bad for a grab shot! John.

"No apologies" needed for another good PC shot of one of my favorite destinations, Steven. An idyllic beach scene, but a far cry from the water scene we're seeing in Bangkok - I wonder if that's why this beach is deserted right now? Anyway, a well composed shot, and I like the time of day you took it. Let's see more!

I love the unconventional, raw freshness of this shot, Bob. It reminds me of the sort of backdrop used to sell menthol cigs. in the bad old days, and candid shots I took of my naked wife outdoors as she was running to admonish me for whipping the camera out - not sure that's going on here, but I would like to think so!

Cool reflection, Daniel. You timed this well for the relatively still water and the good light to bring out those Autumn colours and the attractive church, but frankly, those floating leaves in the sky are distracting, and might best be cloned out.

Hi, Dave. I'm glad you said this is a "captive bird", because I would be wondering how you were able to get such a close shot, even with that big gun. What I really like about this nicely posed portrait is the composition you've found with this owl looking out from the branches partially wrapping him. The BG is well blurred, but it seems you may have been too lucky with the light on the owl and branches; toning things down would not only help the overall pic., but also...

Good clean shot, Bob. You caught this Kite at a good moment and from above, which makes this shot a little different from how we usually view these birds - did you take this from a tall building? The light and exposure look good, and I like the diagonal. He also seems to be checking you out! I don't see this as a "cut and paste", but when one separates the BG to blur things or to sharpen the foreground, it sometimes makes those wing tips a little too sharp, and you might...
