I really like this image. For a beginner, this is a fantastic effort and a lesson in learning, as well. It is an exceptionally poignant image at this time which is traditional for graduations and new beginnings, and the window seems to reinforce these types of feelings. The focus is a bit off; focus should be placed on the girl's right eye. The window trimming is a bit distracting, but you could not have captured this specific image from any other angle; a crop just above the girl's head may be in order. You worked well with the exposure. This is a quiet image and, as such, may have been appealing shot as a horizontal. You are doing well. Sometimes decisive moments do not occur when you are in the most advantageous position to photograph them. Ultimately, I guess, that is the goal of every candid photographer - to anticipate, recognize, and successfully photograph a scene at the exact instant that it comes together, aesthetically, artistically and compositionally, to be greater than the sum of its parts. As you are a beginner, I am inclined to go a full 3 T.U., but in keeping with the spirit of the ratings system I'll call it a 2+ T.U. Good work; keep at it!

Thank you Michael! This photo has been emailed to Jen and then back to me, so I think the artifacts are worse than they were in the original. I love to photograph children and I like close-up shots. If they smile and pose for me, I put down the camera and wait to catch them again later. I have used a point and shoot for years, but received my first digital camera in January. I am trying to learn photography, my new camera and Photoshop all at once, and it is a bit overwhelming! I am loving PhotoSIG and the comments and suggestions I get here. I'm hoping this is a jumping off point for future endeavors. Thank you for your words of encouragement!

A beautiful moment to capture, but sadly the quality is really bad, the focus seems out which is a shame.
At least you have the location to visit again and may be lucky to recreate this another time with more care.

It is sweet indeed to capture a moment in time. The quality is lacking though. The focus is poor or there is camera shake. Taken at a distance I presume. You did well with the exposure though as the situation was not good from that perspective. Jen did well.
