Hi all, I am new to photography and this is my first attempt at shooting animals at the zoo. All comments will be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Personally, I think the DOF on this shot is a good choice. I like the way the guy sort of melts into sharper focus from the bottom up. It's not necessary IMO for every feature to be sharp.

That said, the head is definitely what you want to be sharp, and I think in the print it probably is sharper than what's posted here. So, you might want to run this through your scanner again and make more use of any sharpening algorithms it might have (unsharp mask usually works best). If nothing's available on your scanner, your next best bet is your image editor.

I agree the date should go.

Don't know your camera but I have several suggestions. First, you need to take the date stuff out. Probably a good idea to disable this feature in the future. You can clone the date out with a photo editor. Secondly, the image is not well focused. This is probably due to low light conditions. Also, using more DOF would have made the paws come out better. Higher numbered f-stop.

Not bad, however, for a first submission. Welcome to PhotoSig.

Hi Jim, thanks for the suggestions! Yes...the dynax 7 is a new camera for me and I forgot to disable the date function! The pic was actually taken handheld at f2.8 hence the lack of DOF . WOuld have love to make the paws stand out more! Will try tripod + f5.6 this weekend. Thank you so much for the comments. FOr newbies like myself, it is great help (and encouragement of sorts) Cheers
