I love this photo. Your capture is beautiful and the colors are amazing. I can see why you really don't want to clone the branch. If you clone the branch to the left, what would be the reason for the dark shadow across the birds neck.. so it has to stay and I agree with you..I like it natural looking too. Thank you for posting. Best Regards, Jo

Cloned the branch out of the photo and I agree with the prior comments. Does look better without it. Nevertheless great capture. What focal length and tripod or hand held? Wish I had taken it. JimT

I cloned out the branch in another version not uploaded. Both have their points. Thanks for your comments.

Great job in catching that hard-to-get cardinal. Very nice handling of the red. Proper exposure and good focus.
The background is a bit too bright and contrasty making it cluttered. I would add a mask and even out the contrast a bit.

You nailed the bird, Michael. The only element that's distracting is that one branch adjacent to his head. Could you have cloned it off? Would have looked far better it you could have. Cheers, Rick.

I like the natural look to the photo and the stark looking branches as opposed to the colorful cardinal. But yes, the branches could easily be cloned out.

Michael - nice capture. The colors are very good even in shadow. DoF & focus are spot on. My only grumble is the he is too centered. Maybe crop it more rectangle than square. TFS. Blessings, Sonja

Thanks, Sonja. Centered seemed like the best crop for this one. I wanted to include the full lifeless branch in opposition to the cardinal.

Wrote my critique before I read your comment but can not understand why you wanted to include an element that is not pleasing to the eye and provides a point of interest away from your main subject. I don't my the centering at all as the bird is very well done and immediately attractive.
