One morning was walking and saw this stick highlighted by single bit of sunlight piercing through the trees. A poignant reminder and a wee jab at the meisters of rules convention consecrate. As artists we capture moments that move us and maybe others as well. The masters of art in all forms bend, break and sometimes shatter the rules to do so. This capture- eh...it's a nice stick..it's what you do with the stick that counts.

Lighting is not bad. Compositionally, I will crop away a bit of the left including that white semilunar object under the "stick" at the upper left corner. Sharpten slightly the image would be more helpful to appreciate the textures and/or the details of the wood.

Yes exactly Pilot and do have a shot that is exposed about 1/4 step higher with the cropping/focus as suggested. Which exactly what would be needed for stock photo's etc.,. This one I chose as is a shot as is a study of Steichen and similar artists' lighting (emphasizing point of focus), focusing (where the hand would pick up the stick, clutter (what is that around it?) etc.,. techniques. Just to poke fun at those 'silly critics' we see so often on here. Your critique is 'to appreciate the textures and/or details of the wood' and is exactly what would normally be needed to make it a better capture. I wish there were three thumbs up for critiques...you should get one.

In fact, I appreciate the curves and the shadows as well, their combination looks like an eye. Some of Edward J. Steichen's works had also touched my heart ("Flatiron Building"). Anyway, thanks your "TU" for my critique. Pilot
