This is New Year's Eve at 3.30 pm in the post-industrial North West of England. While everyone was at home watching TV who could imagine anything so impossibly beautiful was taking place outside as the sun set. The Ribble is a forgotten non-navigable estuary and 'forgotten' seems to me the key word for this photo.

I would agree that the partially seen boat is a bit of a distraction, and would have tried to hide it behind the first one as an option. Of course that might have meant debating whether to wade into the mud, but not taking too long to decide lest the gorgeous light (beautifully exposed incidentally) fades! Crouching might also hide that piece of something in the first boat. BTW. The negative to a lower viewpoint might be the first "horizon" (between mud and water) would mostly be hidden by the boat. You'd want to leave enough visible to help the viewer extrapolate the distinction. An alternative viewpoint would require a climb up a ladder (or handy car roof) to completely unhide the second boat, and a greater depth of field to keep it in focus. Ahh, the options in photo composition and technique. That's why we love our craft so much... :-) Thanks for sharing!

The lighting is very nice in this shot and the boat makes for an interesting subject. Having the boat in the background without a clear view of it is a bit distracting though. I wonder if the message of the shot might be enhanced by including more space, if available, around the boat to show that boat is really alone and forgotten. TFS, Nick

Good shot dear Rick, but the second boat is distracting. I would hide it behind of the front one. I prefer see it in smaller scale in photo frame too. Cheers, Mehrdad
