The light was fading fast and only wished I had more time, I would have pulled out more DOF, but love the light at that time of day!

Excellent framing, good sharpness and background isolation. Well done to get the bird at just the right moment with the crayfish in it's mouth.

Super, Rex! Can you pump up the catch light in the bird's eye a little? Birds' eyes are so flat black that they can look dead, but you caught a little light that I would try to exploit. I would also crop from the right to get the eye and beak (and the poor crab) into the rule of thirds. One last nit -- can you blur the lighter area directly over his head to make it disappear more? It draws focus away from the action. Really great photo -- you absolutely caught the decisive moment! Regards, Jill.

Thanks for the comment, and your right it needs the lighter catch light for sure. No that I look at the high lights above the head it does seem strong. Thanks, I will put that to use in the next one.

Good moment and timing on shooting this heron with prey Rex, you were also at a good angle to take the shot. Color saturation looks a bit strong but not bad. Bird eye is focus well but it is a pity that you could not manage better light for a higher f-value for sharper bird wing, perhaps boosting up the ISO could help.

Cheers.........Edwin

I agree totally with the fact i was a bit short on dept. I pushed the old D3 to 2500, I should have went to 6400. This is why I what to up grade to a D3s. Thanks for the input, I do appreciate your looking at the photo. I have hundreds of past photos, but will only post current captures.
