Great shot of possibly the best air superiority fighter ever designed for the US military. Probably the prettiest as well. As you guys probably know, due to it's high cost it was discontinued. Made by Lockheed Martin.

This is an amazing capture Peter, what a great opportunity. It's often the case with plane photos that composition can be awkward. They can feel a little like they are just dropped into an empty field. On your side we have some nice motion behind the craft to help with a little context. You've done well with your composition I think.... perhaps a little more space on the left for the jet to "fly into" would be worth trying.
I'm not sure if it's my eyes from staring at this too long or the post processing but there appears to be just the slightest haloing around the edges of the right elevator/aileron/rudder.
Cool shot of a cool bird!

Sean, I agree with your comment about adding more space on the left. The raw original does have a little more space available, but my choice of crop in this case was heavily influenced by the limitation of the presentation medium. I wanted to retain the maximum level of detail in the jet while staying within the site's guidelines on resolution. In a less restrictive situation, I probably would have extended the crop more to the left.
Your comment about the halo made me wonder, so I went back to the high-res version and examined it closer. There doesn't appear to be any halo in that version, so I'm thinking the haloing effect in this shot may be an artifact of downsizing.
Thank you for your critique!

I understand entirely what you are saying about the limitations of the presentation medium.... it really forces compromises sometimes. Your choice of retaining detail was a good one. This would be an amazing image in a poster size.

Outstanding capture of the premier fighter in the US inventory! Light, shadow and balanced contrast of the sky are excellent. The details from the afterburner 'sonic balls' to the stresses in the airframe and wings from the High G turn. This plane is a marvel to watch and this is one of the best captures I've ever seen of it. Congratulations and thanks for sharing it.

The image is just a delight. I looked and found now flaw whatsoever. Is tack sharp, well exposed, shadows recovered softly and nicely, sky have good color with no over saturation, and I specially love the exhaust afterburner signature.
Great job.

Raptor****
One of the best aerial takes of a fabulous designed plane. The Depth of Field is fantastic, each and every detail is clear cut. Shutter Speed and F-stop are dead on. The contrast between sky and plane is perfect. The Pilot cockpit has this yellow lines that look cool covering the sight of the Pilot, providing another contrasting element on the plane itself. Overall a fantastic capture of a Raptor. Even though we are accustomed to see shots like this, this one is a delight to watch in real life better that going to a war museum.

Thank you Luis. You are right, this beast is a sight to behold in real life, both on the ground and in the sky.

That is an amazing capture. Speed can be felt. Very sharp and good composed, although it could be nice to have some more space up and left. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Peter, one question: the "supersonic balls" at the jet engines, how did you do them, is there a special filter in PS?
Regards, nice submission!
