THis is an impressive scene but I would suggest that if you were to ever have this opportunity again, to wait until the train was a little more broadside so there is more opportunity to capture the two main elements in the scene - the smoke and the train itself. In this view, the compression (shortening) is excessive and a lot of opportunity was lost to really convey the the detail of the locomotive itself. Additionally, it's unfortunate that the engine is framed from behind by the white building. I think this is a significant distraction to the image and think the contrast of man-made building detracts from the impressiveness of the man-made locomotive. Otherwise, you've done a great job with color, sharpness, contrast, lighting, and framing. Leaving the room you did in front of the engine is good and considering the whole seen, is just about right IMO.

Hello Doug, very balanced exposure and nice sharpness overall with a great subject, the thick smoke makes this even more nice.....despite these good things the composition looks wrong to my taste, engine is too much in center and tightly composed, would like to see more space of sky area and to the right. My best wishes!!!

Good photo, fine contrast and sharpness. Like the thick smoke over the locomotive pipe and those woods in two wagons behind of it. I prefer a bit less square framing. Border looks fine to me. Cheers, Mehrdad

The engine and smoke are impressive, but appearance of the sky (and steam?) could be more natural (less contrast?).

Nice composition. There is good detail in the shadows. The smoke trail in front of the locomotive looks odd to me. Overall a nice shot.
