Only reason for 2TU is that it looks too flat. Perhaps some midtone contrast would be better. Good one nevertheless! Reply  Show ratings

I believe that the weather was not on your side: the lighting is a bit harsh despite being very early in the morning. Perhaps you can have better luck some other time, and some clouds in the sky too. Regarding composition, I feel that you could do better with a bit more of the sky and with the mountain more to the right of the frame and the bulk of the flowers to the left. I like the way the flowers are bracketed against the grass of the field and then the mountains. Te sky is a bit dark in the upper left probably due to the small aperture in combination with the polarizer. Perhaps a slightly faster exposure might remedy that. A split neutral density filter would also work...though I have never used one they are very useful for balancing the contrasting light of sky and land. Good image. Reply  Show ratings  From ssal/Alex (27,400) on May 21, 2012 3:28:09 PM CDT Lorne, I seldom use my polarizing filter these days. PS makes the darkening quite painless and effective. I just select->color range the sky and create a new layer and change the blending mode to multiply. You can finesse it by playing with the opacity slider and mask. I don't deny that there is a place for polarizer though. Particularly when you want to remove reflection. The sky can be whatever colour you like it to be. My comment was based on the technical aspect of the image in that the sky (and the ground beneath it) was darker in that corner due to the small aperture and use of the polarizer. It was just a technical observation...you needed the small aperture to keep everything sharp. I've had the same effect happen to my photos when I use a very small aperture...sometimes it makes the image look better and sometimes it does not. Glad you like your photo the way it is. The sky is uneven and too saturated. Could be better if you wait till the sun is angled (and if possible) from a different angle. I woke at 5 am to get there by then. I assure it is nowhere near midday! And maybe I will attempt different angles if I go back! You'd be better off without it and do the darkening of the sky in PS. Reply
