Just a little experiment. Knowing that this pic suffers several flaws, I still ask for opinion: besides taking better focus (this failed due to bad lighting), what would you suggest for improvement?

Thanks for stopping by.

Made my smile :) Original and interesting object, cozy colors and that unmistakable feeling of loneliness. An of course, sharpness is the weak point here. Otherwise good work, thanks for sharing.

Interesting concept but the sharpness is crucial. I also think the space below does not add to it and the background doesn't connect. Done differently this can be a nice image.

if you take away the bottom 20% it will improve composition, the lights wouldnt detract so much if the toy was in sharp focus, easiest way is to set up the shot with the lights on,if using autofocus make sure the engine is in focus, then switch to manual focus and turn the lights out, nice pretty scene and the blue adds to it,cheers martyn

Hi Roxie, I like this shot because as the previous poster mentioned, its fun and whimsical. But I feel that you could have cropped out more of the image, I feel that the locomotive gets a little lost in all that space. Also, although the background lights are pretty, they distract from the subject rather than add to it. You mentioned the sharpness yourself. Thanks for sharing!

In many ways it's an appealing photo - the colors in the background are fun, and the overall look is nicely whimsical. The biggest flaw is the burnt out white circle, that grabs the viewers' eye away from the engine. I would also recommend a bit less of the dark region at the base; it doesn't add anything to the photo, and shifts the engine too high in the composition. Kevin
