Photo
This is an old one, It was one of the first digital images I had taken and was far enough back that my image editer was PhotoDeluxe by Adobe. It was frustrating because I was heavily involved in darkroom work and knew what this image would do using B&W film. I eventually gave up on it. I ran across it today while searching for some other digital images, and thought, "Ah-Ha! Time to revist that old puppy ".
It was taken in a motel room in Morro Bay, CA at the end of the afternoon. The sun was setting quickly and I was losing the light. By the time I would have dragged out the film camera the light would be gone. The camera was my wife's snap shot camera, a 3MP Kodak which was the common camera back then. I leaned against the door frame to steady myself and went for the long time exposure.
What I saw in this was the way the toweling textures ranged from looking very soft to very rough depending on the way the light was falling, and the play of light around the towels. I spent a lot of time on this in the past, but was never happy with it. Today when I saw it again, I knew exactly how to finish it up. BTW, it only looked somewhat like this in real life. I knew how it could look in B&W and that's what I was after. It took less than five minutes to complete the image, and way more time than that placing the text and creating the border ;-)

I really like your simplicity here! I agree....my first thought after enjoying the mood here is that the white lines on the right are distracting. I am trying to come up with ideas for some still life work when it gets too hot to be outside here and wasn't finding much to be inspired by and this stopped me to look, caught my eye and then I realized it was yours. Good work and as always you have a great eye! Carole

I am a great fan of good B&W photographs and I think this a very good example of a great B&W photograph. I like the simplicity of the composition and the rough texture of the towels that contrast well with the smooth hardware. I do love the use of the shadows on the walls. I don't see any way to improve the image. Ray

Hi Robert a good b&w capture on the motel room linen here with very good clarity, detail and nicely composed. Particularly like the very good play of light and shadows and the simplicity of it. Might clone out the small white lines on the frame to the far right which seem a little distracting. A simple but very effective job - regards, Colin

The lines on the right are the other chrome bracket. It'll be an easy enough thing to see what it looks like with them out.
