Simply sublime! I like the column of smoke which rises in the sky. The foreground shows us much distance and the size of the volcano from its environment. I love the cool tones that gives a somewhat dramatic to the scene.

This is a very nice capture. I really enjoy looking at it! I do like tone mapping and HDR, but this has gone too far for even me. The halos around the trees at left are a sign of that. I agree about distracting foreground. I also agree about the field of view. I think the plume is one of those situations where you have to leave space in the direction it is moving vs the opposite side. Personally, I would go back and start over with the HDR and use a different tool or fergitaboutit or use a lighter hand. Then I would crop the image at about where the foreground grasses start. If you want the same aspect ratio, that leave about 4 windmills on the right. This puts the volcano almost at the third line on the right with its plume going left. One more thought about composition -- you might consider giving the left side a bit more space by creating more canvas on teh left and filling it by hand with cloning or with something like content aware fill.

I dont like too much HDR here. Excellent capture with a very (of course) dramatic atmosphere. Your composition got it very well. Terrible !

I find it to be a good chance for great shot, it's very interesting scene. But I think you could get more from it then this. But my personal taste plays a big role here - I just can't get used to HDR images. I don't understand what people see in it. I can accept it when used in modest amount. That's my problem of course, however it spoils this photo to me. But I think there are other issues except for HDR. Foreground is very busy, it is quite distracting. And I think that composition could be better - I would put the mountain more to the right side, used the fact that smoke is going to the left and therefore balancing the whole composition. Situated like this in the center of the image it doesn't work for me.

Hello Matteo, the picture is not so good to me. The mountain is to much in the middle, I would turn the camera more to the left (mountain more to the right in the picture), so the smoke has more room to go to. The composition will be better then. Good lighting, but the sky has a strange colours, maybe by the smoke (or HDR?). Keep on shooting.

Excellent on all counts for me, I love the contrast between all this grey and the bare trees in the foreground : fire (the Etna), water (the clouds), air (the wind turbines) and earth (the foreground)... all four elements have been summoned to achieve a wonderful image. Thanks for sharing.
