This is a dramatic landscape with some amazing colours. It is debateable whether they are realistic but do they create a great picture? My feeling is that there is a feeling of 'noise' in the image overal and the colours are a bit too exagerated but it is a good attempt none the less.

I like a good sunset as much as any other photographer, and I've hardly come across one as spectacular as this. I also like the element of story that your title brings to this image. The placement of the surfer works for me - the implied diagonal between the sun and the surfer sells the asymmetry of this composition well.

When looking at this image on a color calibrated monitor with a normal gamut, I think that the saturation in the deep oranges is a bit too much. I think that there is some channel clipping going on. Also, the reflected blues on the water look almost too good to be true, given that one cannot see the sky it is reflected off of. Perhaps a little less saturation would recover both detail in the oranges and make the blues a bit more authentic. Hope you still have the RAW file around.

Also, the image has lots of high frequency detail, and I think the sharpening is a bit coarse for it. Going for a bit more subtle look with a smaller amount of sharpening and a smaller radius might make it appear less artificially rough.
