This is an example of a photo that is beyond critique. There is absolutely nothing that I would change. Very well seen and executed.

Thanks Mohamad for your kind words! I am real happy that you like this shot so much. Shooting conditions were quite poor (dirty glass in front of me) so I am glad the outcome is ok. - I was about to go outside of that look-out tower, but a temperature of - 17 degrees Celsius and very stong wind prevented me from doing that. Warm regards, Karin

Greetings, Karin. I am struck by the subtle complexity of this composition, overlaid by a veneer of stark simplicity. I think the composition is perfect as it is; if you fix things offered by earlier critics (brightness/contrast, and the cloning matter), the only issue I would add is sharpness: the fine branches of the trees seem a bit fuzzy. I realize that the sharpness issue might pertain only to this uploaded version; full-size and full-resolution, sharpness may well be fine and clear - but perhaps it's something to be aware of.

Do you have wings? This is very high!

~Best wishes, Barry

Thanks so much Barry for this real good critique!

No I don't have wings ;-) the image was taken from this tower

The trees are not perfectly sharp - I had to shoot through a glass window that was not clean at all and also quite thick and reflected the light. I will keep the brightness/contrast and the cloning matter in mind for the next image

Kind regards,

Karin

You're welcome for the critique, Karin. Following the link you provided, that's an imposing tower! Safety glass is not optical quality under the best of conditions, and I don't imagine that anyone cleans these windows very often!

Viewing this photo again, I'm still fascinated by the intricate webwork of footprint paths. The paths seem supported by the roadway, and the trees seem captured by the web.

Amazing! i love it, I can't believe that was shot with a pocket camera, Beautiful composition and it looks like a natural black and white photo. I wonder how will it come out if you shoot the same frame with and actual 6X6 film camera

Thanks you for your critique and the generous rating, glad you like my image!

The Canon Powershot G12 is not a simple  a pocket  camera - you are in control of many settings if you want - its actually an excellent camera

I have it always with me, as my DSLR is real  heavy

Cheers, Karin

I have a G9 and have to agree, it is not a simple pocket camera. I'm sure the 12 is much better than my G9 and we can get some amazing shots with it.

I agree with the praises from the other critiques, but unfortunately the image is much spoiled by the presence of several lines, visible as almost perpendicular to the shadows of the tree trunks, as well as some sloppy cloning in the upper right quarter. Still, a very good picture! - Adam

Thanks Adam for your thoughts! The lines are footsteps and shadows - You have got a good eye! - I did clone out a dark spot and was not aware it caused a repetition of the pattern below - Thanks for pointing that out! Cheers, Karin

These perpendicular lines don't have to be real; that's what eye can see. I'd advise to remove the impression by randomizing. Regards - Adam

I think what you refer to are reflections and dirt of the window I had to shoot through! I'll try to clone them out in pp - thanks again - Regards, Karin

If there isn't enough scope for successful cloning, I find a better method is to make lots of small irregular and well-feathered selections, and copy each in turn over the blemish. It's much easier to hide the repeats that way.

I like the dizzying perspective of this one - very unusual!

Karin - I absolutely love this! Great dynamic range and texture. To me this is one of those times where the road (?) being closer to the center of the frame projects a bit of tension. I think if you could have kept the road a bit closer to the right, following the rule of thirds - the shot could have been made even more compelling. Of course, this means you might have lost one of those wonderful trees, so I can fully appreciate why you chose this composition. Alternatively, could you rotate the shot just a bit to put the road at an angle? Wonderful capture! How did you process this? Cheers! Jonathan

Thanks so much for this well thought critique Jonathan!

Interesting, I did not pay much attention to the road, I was kind of fascinated by the interesting distribution of the trees made by nature - reminded me of the "big dipper" -

My postprocessing: Converted the image to B&W, went to levels in Photoshop, moved both the black and white slider of the output-level more to the middle, resized the image and used unsharp mask, 0,5 pixel at 100%

Cheers, Karin

Hi Karin. I love all the footprints. I don't know if you already did or not but maybe try hitting the contrast a bit to emphasize them. How did you get this? Plane? Helecopter?

Thanks Joe for your critique! Well, I did actually increase the contrast quite a bit already, but I tried it now, it does look better with the very bright snow.

I took the image from the Donauturm today

Cheers, Karin

Nice composition. You might consider increasing the contrast to eliminate the gray areas, esp. in the lower left corner. Might also consider rotating the picture clockwise to make the road a little stronger diagonal.

Hi Glenn! Thanks for your critique and the suggestions! I'll try to increase the contrast a bit more. I don't think rotating the picture would work though, as the trees would be tilted then - Cheers, Karin
