You got the focus right and I really like the detail on his head. Unfortunately the quality tails off too quickly for my liking. I think you need to stop the lens down and get more depth of field. The white patches in the BG are a distraction, but not a major problem. If the BG were a little darker my attention would say on the critter more easily.
