Hi John, must be a decisive moment, I agreed with Sheena and Dave, but the bird is a little soft on focus ,so I think the best is to clone out the big splash of water ,so the bird would not lost more detail.
It is still a two thumbs picture ,this doesn't happen everyday and need patient and luck. Thanks for sharing,Peter.

Hi, Peter. It does look like I should forget about the splash! Many thanks for the suggestion. Best regards, John.

Hi John, The little water drops and the splash is good ,it gives the motion feel in the picture , I think just clone out the big one at the center.Try it, see you you like it. This is only my opinion.Peter.

nice try John. you got the exposure down but a higher shutter speed would have been nice to freeze the water drops and the wings. It also would have been nice if the bird was facing in your direction. I am not sure if the bird placed in the middle of the photo helps the image

Hi, Dave. I have a once a week meeting with this little lady now I know where she feeds. She's a creature of habit, but I would have to be out in the lake to get her facing me. Thanks for commenting -points well made and taken.

Close but no cigar for me. The shallow DOF and the motion blur don't work for me. I want to see it all sharp since all these details are important in this little scene. I'm not sure the big blob of water works at the bottom of the frame, I might be tempted to crop that out, being the lightest area of the scene it tends to draw my eye there.

Hi, Sheena. I very much appreciate you coming in on this one. It was the swirl of water that appealed to me so didn't really want to crop that out, but I guess that has to go. I would love to get everything sharp at this moment - haven't achieved it yet, but still working on it - maybe a lot closer with a smaller lens? Many thanks! John.

John you have the patience of a saint! I can see the appeal of the swirl of water, it caught my attention too, but in the end I thought it was a distraction. One of those things that could go either way depending on the viewer perhaps.

Hi John,
Very well captured. The motion blur in the wings are great, but I would also love to see a version where the movement was frozen.
The composition is just perfect. The bird it self making a diagonal and the head with the shrimp is placed perfect in the frame.
Thanks for sharing.
