Hello - Laughing Gull at, Manasquan Inlet, Point Pleasant, about 100 feet away, New Jersey, USA. Picture info: From about 100 feet away, Full Color, 01-17-2012, 10:14AM, EXIF data: Full auto mode, auto focus, everything, f/5.6, 1/500 second, ISO-250, 600MM, with 52mm UV filter in the slot, Manfrotto Model 58 Tripod, with fluid head. Also used the IS (mode 1). This is the Canon 600MMF4L IS USM Lens, and the Canon 5D mk II camera. At least I did not have to kill the bird as John James Audubon would have (1785-1851). Thank You Ralph

Hello Ralph. Well captured pose of this Landing Gull, well seen and great find. However I would prefer to see more space in left side of photo, due to the fact that the other gull which are out of the focus are cutted here. Thank you for sharing. Regards, Michal.

Great shot (with a great lens). Is this place really called "Laughing Gull?" I was actually at the beach today..on Long Island, N.Y.... and it was pouring rain. This image is well done due to the fact you did not blow out the white hilights on the gulls's body. In addition, the focus is spot on. (Question: Why use IS mode 1 if camera mounted on tripod? I always turn off all IS when mounted.)

Greetings Karl - The gull is the 'Laughing Gull', pic was taken in northern Point Pleasant/Ocean County, NJ. I have been taking pics for 52 years now and I always test everything. First the IS helps in focusing, (but I did use 'AF' here). Yes thru messing around I found as long as you do not use a shutter speed slower than 1/60 second it does not give errors, here at this shutter ... no troubles. Thank You Ralph

What an expression you captured with this guy. I think the thing that hurts this the most is the (non) separation between the main bird and the others in the background. They tend to blend in a bit with one another. I might try to darken the background a bit to see if that helps. Focus is spectacular. Very nice shot.
