A beautiful landscape with the water and sky very well handled and captured. I agree with Edwin, some detail in the black rocks would make it a much stronger image. Regards Anton

Very mysterious atmosphere and a nice blurry water in which I miss something to draw attention to the bottom left of the photo. Thanks for sharing,
Mitja

Like the mystical atmosphere and the misty effect on the sky and water John, but I think it would be greater if some detail can be seen on the rocks and cliff, if possible.
Cheers......Edwin

Possible, but I started with a lighter version before developing this one. There as too much going on and in the wrong places.
Since finishing this version I have lightened the overall image, but that's only really changing the mid values and leaving the blacks pretty much as they are.

Very good picture
I like the mood this picture creates
The shapes are well defined
It's a bit darker for may taste.
Congratulations.

Thanks - I've since lightened the image a touch, though not a huge amount. The main benefit is in the sky which was certainly getting very dark. Tricky shot to take as the bright part of the sky was very bright so I think I used a 3 stop grad along with the overall 10 stop.

Hi there John: this is surprisingly sinister for a serene landscape: it immediately brought Dracula to mind (the novel, not the films) - I can just imagine the Count's ship drawing up and unloading its unholy cargo in such a setting!

Hi Lois - still lurking here I see! I've not read the book, though wasn't it set in Whitby. Right bit bit of coast though Whitby must be about 100 miles further south (just looked it up, 160!). I was up at Lindisfarne with a photography friend for a weekend - whitby was 2nd on our list as that's an excellent stretch of coast too - another time.
Dunstanburgh is much photographed, though most people latch onto the Joe Cornish composition with the canon ball beach in the foreground.
