Hi all, This is a kind of "test shot" with our new Nikon D5100 body. Wanted to try some manual settings and create a high key portrait.

She was not really posing as she was playing with a IPhone while I was playing with the new camera. Thus this goes under Snapshot category.

Hi Caj. Good to hear from you. Good portrait work with good eyes contact, almost looks like a High-Key work.

How to make a High-Key portrait.

1. Desaturate your portrait with image>adjustment>desaturate
2. Apply image adjustment curve to your portrait
3. Duplicate the layer, and add gaussian blur (Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur), change the layer blend mode to overlay
4. Add layer mask, Set your foreground color to black, and start brushing over the eyes, nose, and lips. You might want to use the burn tool to burn the background layer around the eyes, nose, and lips.
This is my suggestion only.

Thank you for sharing. Regards, Michal.

Thanks Michal. Really good and useful tips. Will try these, we might see outcome of that someday.

Unfortunately nowadays my work has prevented me to spend enough time with my Camera or in Photosig. Hope I will finds more time for this dear hobby of mine.
