have you tried any sharpening on this? seems like a bit could help out. I would make a layer, and sharpen and than mask, and unmask inside the bird to avoid any halos.

i like your attempt! but the photo should be cropped a bit and also u should have tried to take this shot at a larger f stop! because i feel i it would be better so! if possible try to reshot it!

Lighting is somewhat interesting but with the lighting the way it is then it's very hard to show the eye (which to me it's importan in birdshot to make it lively). You should crop closer, cut the bottom some (about 1/2 of that empty space), cut the left close to the bird, cut the top about 1/2 way of that empty space. That probably present the shot better. Just my opinion, thanks for sharing!

PS: Also, I would rotate the shot about 1/2 degree CCLW to line up the ripple with the horizontal egde of the photo.

I like the composition and the overall colors. It is a beautiful blue! The body of the bird is a bit to bright and the gray on the neck is distracting and I would crop the picture and try to de-noise it.
