Hi Ulrich, the colours work well in this image as well as the texture...you can almost feel the roughness. The subject matter is interesting, just quirky enough to be interesting. The viewer is forced to stop and look and figure out what he/she is looking at and that is half the battle with good photography. As mentioned, the lack of sufficient dof is a major drawback. I love your work as I am an abstract/detail junky like yourself but this is not up to your usual high standard. Cheers, Wayne

Ulrich - I like this image a great deal; it has fascinating detail and evokes a sense of surprise and bemusement. I would very much like to hand out 3TU, but for me I'd like to see the toes intrude a bit further into the frame - past the center, so that some of the vast negative space to the left is occupied just a bit as well. Also - especially given the wide angle lens -- I'm a bit disappointed that the depth of field across the main subject (those toes!) isn't somewhat deeper - the blurred lump in the extreme foreground is distracting rather than supportive of your theme. Unrelated to my rating: I'd be quite interested in seeing a B/W version . . . I think you'd get a terrific abstract from such a treatment. In any case, as always with respect to your work: bravo!

Thanks James. In fact it's a zoom lens I used at 200mm which, correlated with the sensor, equalizes 320mm at full format sensor or 35mm film - hence the shallow DOF. I agree the smallest toe should have been sharp as well.
