My father, who unfortunately passed away last October, with my son. One of the last photos I could take of my father, and to me, a very valuable memory.

Sorry to hear about your loss Gerrit. I think you have a photo here that you and your family will cherish as a lasting memory. As someone who does not know you or these people I can offer the following thoughts on the image.

It has a nice relaxed feel to it. Both subjects seem calm and at ease both with the photographer and each other. It seems like a choice was made by you to go with the all-white theme. White sheet on the couch, white shirts on both. And I like the effect in general because it gives this a nice uplifting mood. The exposure and/or post processing you have done on this has definitely removed a lot of detail from the shirts and background but I don't really have an issue with that. It would be nice if the background to the left behind your dad wad brighter though IMO. Something to match the nice transition in the background we see on the right. It would be fairly easy to accomplish that with some post processing. If there is detail in the original file I would consider finding a way to bring some of that back for the shirts they are wearing? Why do that? Well to provide some separation between the subjects of the photo and the background to give the photo a little more depth. The expression on your son is great and I like the catchlights in those big eyes. Seeing your dad looking at his grandson is perfectly fine and a nice moment but I do wish we could see some more of his eyes.

Welcome to PhotoSIG Gerrit.
