Hi Eric, great photo of the moon. Moon isn't easy to good capture, I know something about it. I usually use manual mode M. I agree with ISO 200, but I'm using 1/500 sec shutter speed, I agree also that here yo have a better details than with 5D. I would like to suggest you to to cropp a little bit up part of photo. Thank you for sharing. Regards, Michal.

Well ... whatever it is you were testing ... it worked. Great detail here! MY only squawk would be the crop. It looks tight on the left side when the eye tries to complete the circular disk of the moon. Pretty snazzy toys you've got there!

Yep, it was the first time that I ever took a shot of the moon that allowed me to downsize before uploading. The micro 4/3 sensor gives me about 12mp in the FOV of a 800mm lens with this combo and with image stabilization. But it is manual focus.

Wow! I can get my Fuji HS10 out to 700mm, but that extra 100mm makes a big difference. I'm actually betting that for a shot like this, manual focus is a benefit, but it's probably going to be tricky wicket doing quick wildlife/sports shots.

Great shot Eric, not only for the details of moon surface, but also for the very well composition, size in photo frame and the portion of the moon bright to be seen. Light control has been done quite well. No measurable noise can be seen. Neat Nice work. Regards, Mehrdad

I don't know what is up with your 5D! I have several shots as good as this with my Canon XSi using an EF 100-400mm L series and even an old Tamron 400mm f/5.6 lens. I did use a cheap tripod and a shutter release cable and I had to manually focus using manual settings to get exposure right. Your 5D should have blown me away!!!

No, it shouldn't have. Google "pixel density" before you go on further. The sensor in your Rebel XSi has higher pixel density and higher resolution. Though the 5D probably has somewhat better overall image quality because of its larger pixels, higher resolution was the difference between this shot and that taken with my 5D.
