Playing during a nature walk. Got back and saw the tshirt and got a kick out of the two open mouths.

I really like your overall composition, but the boy is definitely a bit underexposed. I think the photo could be greatly improved by brightening the child and maybe brightening the colors a bit as well...as it is it's a bit dull (colors wise).

Hi Jennifer. If to tell about this photo from point of view just point of view just child portrait, then it's perfectly done photography, dynamic and with emotions. :) If to tell about this photo from point of view photography as art, then here is see few things which can be done better. For example background is much brighter than boy, so this distract from boy and his story. Also second things - this sharpness, photography quite not sharp, so this is also area for improvement. So that's why just 1 critique point. :) Thank you for sharing.

Thank you very much for looking! I am playing to improve my photography so all the tips help--I didn't think about the bg brightness--ways to improve? Sharpness on psig is always a problem for me as I have not figured out how to upload well (I don't have PS), but original pic is sharp. Thank you again!

It's hard to explain why to do background darker than main subject, but you can just try when will be a time. It's really not hard in photoshop by mask and you will see effect. Effect will be that eye will not jump so fast and so often from more darker boy ( right now ) to more bright back. This will allow to make photography more focused on main subject. Sure this is just my vision, and experience. Each photographer had own vision what is better. :)
