Bosque del Apache, NM. A late afternoon session trying for that elusive backlit shot of the cranes and their wings open wide for landing. This one appealed to me because at this point the bird is about 2 feet and one second from 'splash down' and the wings are working furiously to slow the impact, and I think the sense of motion is shown here - my opinion. To all of our friends in the USA - have a wonderful Thanksgiving day!

Hi Paul, very good shot this is. The warm lighting on the long feathers of the wing is just great and I do like very much. The little back lighting helps to outline the bird very well. Of course that needs very well managed exposure. You have done a very good job on that. Would be a perfect shot without the black at the top. Also I would clon out the 'mark' Edwin has mentioned. Regards Robert.

Excellent shot Paul, great profile shot with the gorgeous pose. The brownish highlight over the near wing is a great thing to see on this crane. Sharpness is perfect and the light is wonderfully done on the highlights, but I wish the Sun is behind you for more light on the bird body. A very great bird shot to enjoy Paul.

BTW, is there a clone work on the background? There seems to have a mark near lower right above the dark tad.

Cheers......Edwin

Thanks Edwin. The backlit shots were what I was after here as I had taken enough morning front lit attempts.

Another fiery beauty, Paul, and well timed. I still prefer #4, but technically, this looks much better, and I love the red light caught on those extended wing feathers, as well as in that focussed eye. You deserve that roast leg of lamb! Great stuff! John.

Ha ha! I've often wondered what these would taste like - there are enough to go around.
