Hi Len, Nice try, but OOF almost everywhere..next time you try this use at least f5.6 or more and focus on the nearest part of the bird, like the end of his beak, if that is the nearest part to you.. Then DOF will take care of the rest depending on wether you set enough DOF to begin with. DOF = Depth of Field, that is how much will be sharp from the point of focussing to infinity or less.. Also the light appears to be coming from the right side, try and position yourself so that you have light falling on the front of the bird so more details can be seen. Your ISO setting of 400 is high for detailed shot and probably could have been 200 instead, giving better resolution for the fine details in the feathers. Good try, not the easiest shots to take and get right as birds tend to move around a bit, but practice makes perfect. You can try the DOF settings by shooting anything, using different settings both with ISO and DOF and see what happens.. That is the magic with digital photography, we can erase everything and it costs nothing but time.. Welcome to PhotoSig...
regards Dave

Thanks for the input.
As I said it was a lens I was trying out on a demo day. Not much time to work .
I like the colors so much, I want to be able to use this photo, but......not fixable.

Welcome to SIG!....A little soft in focus, as the whole bird is out of focus (slightly) it seems your lens/camera has missed the mark, more likely lens. at longer focal length you may be safer with manual focus on static object if you have a kit lens. I have suffered the same fate on numerous occasions. The cropping is a little tight, need some more space above his head. If you have a look at the great bird shots on sig all have the eyes perfectly in focus.
Cheers James

Nice looking bird Len but it needs to be sharper, its just not quite in focus, i think maybe the crop is a little too tight and i would have liked to have seen the whole structure the bird is perched on because it is round rather then a straight horizontal perch, the bird is leaning a little to the left, i think to portray this majestic bird at its best, it would look better straight and proud, the background is probably not the best either, just a little too bright
