Hi Patrick, you have captured the hummingbird at a perfect moment with the wings at pleasant position and the motion blurr of them are a nice touch. However, the grains are severely spreading out on the whole background and the hot throat of the bird distracts. Think you have made a pretty strong crop from your original because ISO 320 alone wouldn't be that destructive on the grains.

Cheers......Edwin

Hi Edwin, The 5D being full frame isnt the best choice for this kind of thing. At least with the lenses I have. The hummers are so small I need to do crop to about 25% of the original shot and thus the grain is prevalent. Its still fun! Im heading out today to pick up a 100mm macro lens to try something different, any suggestions? I enjoy your work and thanks for the support. P

by the looks of your portfolio this is not up to you usual standards. seems noisy and over sharp. try using a higher shutter speed and HSS flash if possible.

This is a great capture with excellent focus and sense of movement. The isolation of the subject from the background is most appealing.

You have made a great capture. IMO a bird in flight is one of the most difficult photos to take. The head is in good focus but the body is lacking a little in this respect. The wings are blurred but this is to be expected for a for a bird in motion like this The exposure and light are good and the bklurred background sets off the subject matter just great. Well done.
