Taken at noon. Since the sky was so bright I just decided to try at little high-key type shot. Did convert to b&w

Thumb-down    from sjonmoore/Sjon (2,843) Send mail to this user on June 7, 2009 7:44:18 PM CDT (3) Early critique

This isn't high-key as much as it is blown-out. Setting that aside for a moment, the treatment you've given this can be very effective, if the subject warrants it. This processing strips the subject down to something like a study in geometry and shape. While the sunflower has recognizable geometry, is it enough to make the photograph work? In my opinion, not really. We've all seen flowers. We're all familiar with their symmetrical shapes. It's just not enough to hold my attention for long. But then again, others may feel differently.

I also find the cropping to be too tight. Some of the petals on the top and the bottom have been chopped off which is disconcerting.

I guess in summary, the treatment can definitely work, but I think it's the wrong choice for this subject.
