Hi Stijn great shot and nice autumn colours. Good light and the shadow gives it depth. I do agree with the first critique about the focus on the stem but still a very good capture. Doug.

Hi Stijn. Madness certainly worked well for you! The shadow and Dof work really well. The only thing missing from this are the elves. This picture belongs in a fairytale book. Great eye and superb picture.

Hi Stijn! Good shot indeed! I love this mushroom and its shadow in an unusual setting! Well composed, with good colours, too. Good job! And you're not the only photographer who is probably thought to be a little crazy, we photographers tend to put ourselves in some funny situations for a good picture! :-)I know what I'm talking about! :-) here it was definitely worth it! Best regards, Micky

Thanks a lot Micky :)
Indeed, I too do some crazy stuff for my photo's.
I wouldn't want to look at a picture with the idea that I could've done a lot better :)

Hi Stijn! You found a nice toadstool and the lighting conditions were great, I really like the shadow that is projected on the wall. I am not so fond of the bright trash ( a dead toadstool?) in the fg, it is distracting, I would have removed it before taking the photo or clone it out now. I also think focusing is a bit soft, the stem is blurred, whereas the wall is sharp - maybe selctive sharpening (using the sharpen brush) would improve the image Rgds, Karin

Hi Karin,
I still don't understand what goes wrong with the compression Photosig uses. The stem is as sharp as it gets, really :). But not on this picture.
Have a look here:

As you can see the edge of the toadstool is sharp, the wall is sharp so everything in between should be sharp, right? :)

.. I looked at the other website with the stool ...
here the link
my eyes got very critical being here in pSIG, looking at so many images,
read and write critiques, that I would say, no, the stem is not in 100% focus
there either ...
When you resize your image, you do lose sharpness, you have to sharpen it
with your software yourself before submitting it - My standard process on most
of my reduced imagages: I use unsharp mask at 100% and a radius of 0,5 pixel -
For certain
areas in my image I use the sharpen brush, which is in the tool bar. use opacity
8, hardness 0 and the size not too big, around 20 -
Hope this helps, Cheers, Karin

Hi Karin,
First, please tell me how you made that link :). I tried [img], , etcetera. Couldn't find the right code.
About your comment: That could be true. What I meant: The picture is in focus. At least, the original picture is.
Believe it or not, the wall is not sharp! I thought it was, but I took a closer look at the original picture and it's far from sharp. Resizing the picture really messes with the focus, apparently. Eitherway, have a look. Here's the big one:
http://stijnkraft.ebenau.net/autumn.jpg
It might take a while to load this one. Please be patient :).
I'm sure this will convince you that the original picture is sharp.
Anyway, I have to sharpen my resized picture. I'm a bit afraid of that. I sometimes sharpen the full size picture, but sharpening a resized picture that has already been unsharp, I can't imagine that'll work out nicely. But ofcourse I'll give it a go :).
Thanks again for your comment. Unfortunately can't give you another TU for this one ;)

How close was the road to the Church? The image data shows 34mm focal length, so you had to be pretty close to the subject given the composition and perspective.
