I love the angled approach. The longer exposure also adds an extra touch. You can see that he is really playing the violin and not just posing for the picture. Lighting on the face also worked out real fine. To bad you did not include the entire violin in the picture.

very nice portrait with great colour and very good use of dof, but the only thing that is strange is that its on one hell of an angle. have you thought of trying to rotate the image and croping it. i think that it will work if done right. see if it looks good in B+W too
