A much better photographer than I told me that your pictures will improve if you include foreground and background to your subject and all three parts should work together on some level. good luck, Einar:)

Hi Gav, welcome to the world of photography, great to see your first pic on photosig, great title, im not going to critique your first photo, however, the shutter speed you,ve recorded doesnt seem right, in the meantime enjoy your new hobby, and happy snapping.

Hi Gav, flash photography is actually quite complex and is not great for "testing/learning". A photography teacher I know recommends cloudy, but bright, days for experimenting and practicing, while others recommend first and last light of the day.
