The Mandarin ducks are slowly returning to our area as temperatures in the mountains plunge. It's an exciting time for all, and adds that extra bit colour to our Autumn.

Cool!
OK... So I'll say it: "Where's the Head?" I know you were waiting to hear that one!
At any rate, The point is I like this shot, for as mentioned, it does really does show off the colors and feathers work in these wings. Nice action blur at the wing tips too. Interesting colors on the wave caps. Nice Shadow highlights, just a little dark on the lower left area. Nice job on the timing of this spread, Your overall composition works with this well. Thanks for sharing this.

Hey, Michael. I was touched that you dug this out of the archives, and glad you liked this. These guys are back again at our local pond along with the crowds of folk coming to view the fall foliage - quite an annual draw, with the Mandarins competing for attention, although shying away from the limelight. Many thanks for dropping by! Hope to see another Snowy owl photo this winter - in flight if you can get it!! Best wishes, John

John   --    Just back from a Long (5-day) working weekend (IT technical Conference) in Las Vegas, and then directly running off for 7-days in the Yellowstone area... I am tired & still catching up... As far as "Archives" goes... When I am gone from here like this for over a week or so... I start from the oldest pages and work forward, just to see what I've been missing out on... This one and it's colors Really did catch my eye as interesting. I like your story about it now too. What a way to go out for a shoot!

As for that Snowy White Owl... I too as are many others in the area are preying he returns to the area again... If he does... You can count on seeing something here. Take care and keep on Shooting!     ---Cheers!

I like it. Even being the back of the duck, it really works because its wings are impressive. The sharpness is great, the contrast is good too. Once you have your subject really centered, maybe I would try to level the wings a little more, making it straight (don't ask me why, just think it could work hehe). Thanks for sharing this great picture.

Hi, Mauricio. People want to see a head. Unfortunately, it's hard to get a turned head and the whole back from this position. But glad you liked this angle. Many thanks . John
