Alternatively, instead of cropping the mountains (though I agree, that's definitley an option), you could selectively work with the contrast between the sky and clouds to give this added punch. Sink the blues, raise the highlights and it might strengthen the image.

I don't feel the light is harsh and this was nearing sunset. I do feel you need less of a sky and that would make the mountains bigger and more impressive in the composition.

Not bad you would of probably got a better shot had you waited a while longer nearer sunset when the light is not so harsh. Cheers mick.
