Interesting subject. I like how the rope disappears over the edge leaving you to wonder what may be tied up to it. However, the background is a bit distracting. If it was more out of focus it may have helped. Also, if you had gotten lower and used the sky as a background for the cleat I think it would have stood out more. I like your choice of BW.

Nice, almost a travel photo. I like the way that you have dropped the camera position to be level with the subject. But the cross is neither centred nor purposefully off centred. This then starts to look rather haphazard instead of thoughtfully composed. Also, there is a secondary subject in the image, that being the barge/house(?) in the background, but the main subject interferes with our view of it. If we were meant to see it, you might have recomposed so main cross was in bottom left third and then we could still see the object behind, or, if we are NOT meant to see it, then use a much lower DOF so as to obscure it even more.

BTW, why did you make this B&W?
