Technically Outstanding! Thank you for being so very generous to explain the steps to us. I have two questions, first where you mention "dodged and burned," are you referring to using the actual DODGE and BURN tools in Photoshop or do you simply mean just adding a layer mask and then painting in with light? Second, would you be kind enough to post a link to the PSD file (showing all the layers) of the finished photo above (the man with the black hat). Thanks again for your great help!

You can do this both ways...but I prefere actual dodge and burn tool on the blue channel layer...somehow I have better control of result there... About psd of actual photo I coludn't do this because model release. But you can read every step in detail in one of the next numbers of PbMagazine because they ask me to write detailed article about this... Thanks for your crit...

Excellent work Stjepan, I like how you post-processed this guy. But without the good source and excellent artist, this artwork would not be that good.
Great work, thanks for the tips and a PSD. Pozdrav! ;)

Amazing photo Stjepan!
Perfect lighting with dimmed background emphasizes perfectly the gentleman's face. Very clear, sharp and focused as if you didn't missed a bit. The gentleman's pose is great as well.
Regards!

Hi Stjepan,
great portrait, colours and contrast range are absolutely fabulous. Evil or not, there are a lot going on in this photo and in his eyes.

Background...huh...maybe your screen is not properly calibrated... :)) You are right about "white line"! I should mute it a little but basicaly this is reflection from light on the edge of coat... Thanks :)

I would like to know which kind of PS filters have you used in photo editing process. Incredible balance of contrast, congratulations.

Love the post processing - took a look in you portfolio and saw the original shot of Alan. Hard to beleive it's the same shot. Only thing I would change is to use the background from the original - what a deep rich color. Could you point me to a tutorial that explains how to do this?
Great Job

Well... original color of the background don't fit with color of eyes here in PP so I don't think it is good idea to leave it :)) Maybe I miss also color that fit perfectly but...maybe your monitor is not calibrated properly... :ppp :)) Thanks for your cirt! :)) There is no tutorial for this processing...it is done with basic tools in Photoshop... In minute I will write something about that in main comment of this photo...

Love the detial, clarity and focus in this shot. The colours are accentuated but not overdone (as is often the case when one experiments with post processing to this degree). Love the expression and the idea - amazing work!

Holy cow....what a capture. The clarity is amazing....can you share the optics and camera used? Not that it matters all that much, but wow that is something.
My only nit is the thread showing on the jacket below his chin...seems out of place and a bit distracting...but the image is a masterpiece in terms of lighting and exposure...well done.

excelent postprocessing, the portrait looks like 3D rendering;) i like the colors and their saturation level, looks almost unreal. as for my taste however the background could be less blurred.

That is not evil, he looks like he is trying to hold in a laugh. Either that or he has gas. Still, the detailing is great, the eyes are fantastic and his face almost has a painted quality to it. Very well done indeed.

This shot is gorgeous. I love the capture of the skin quality, and the color. And the best is the detail in the eyes, though the square catchlight was a bit distracting to me. Thanks for sharing.

I like this shot. Love the color and how clear everything is, the only thing that bothers me is the crop. I think it could use some more space at the top. Nice shot regardless.

Thank you for sharing your technique. Too many shots are posted on PhotoSIG which, although quite good, have zippo information from the photographer. This defeats the entire purpose of the site. Again, thank you!
