I absolutely love the beautiful greens and the detail in the duck here. You really captured the duck and his environment as a single subject.

Thanks for sharing.

Can't believe I missed this one as I'm always checking out the waterfowl (one of my fave subjects) Sheila. Great pose but what does it for me is the lack of water. Taken near water (natural grassland) really gives it a wild duck feel. Detail is great and the mallard fits well with the scene. Best, Brat.

hi Brat and thanks for the crit! i think this guy was just comin' up out of the water when i shot him. wish i could see the water on him though. :( i was up on on the bank, & i think that dark area in the background is the water. i really love pictures of ducks and geese and stuff too...shoot them a lot! they're just so damn cute! :) anyway, thanks so much again for your feedback on this! i appreciate it! :)

Hi Sheila - yup, a female Mallard - nice pose on her too - exposure and sharpness look pretty good and I too would like a closer crop - at least half the space above her head would make a nice horizontal shot - and you could crop the sides if you wanted to go vertical - keep clicking! John

Really nice pose and excellent sharpness and dof. Good frame too. I'd probably crop the top a little tighter and the right side a little looser. But then, that's just my personal taste.
Well done, Sheila!
All the best / Eric

thanks so much for the crit, Eric! yeah...i wasn't sure about the top. i almost cropped it tighter and then changed my mind. seems i should've trusted my first instinct! :) thanks again! Cheers! sheila

A nice pleasant image, Sheila, with good detail and exposure. However, this is likely a goil duck, likely a female mallard although I'm not 100% sure.

Nice and funny snapshot. I'd try cropping some of the darker portions off the top, other than that the composition is good. Also, you might be able to pull some detail from the shadows at the belly of the beast. Sharpness is exceptional and I like the saturated colors.

hi Harri, and thanks so much for the feedback! yes, i see what you're saying about the top of the frame. i think i could crop some of that off. i agree about those shadows too. i can try a curves adjustment to brighten them up and try to get a bit more detail there. thanks a bunch for your help on this! :)
