I think the colors here are fine really in the sense of what he was wearing.. However the skintones look a bit off to me and I would of tried to use Natual light here and not a fill flash.. you can always turn your subject in one direction or another to get good catchlights in the eyes but here his skin tones seem a bit orangie.. but thats an easy enough fix in PS.

Wow! this is a great portrait, very good idea of shooting him against that beautiful sky. What could you have done to improve this... it could be that it lacks some additional color, a different frame maybe? ... and I would love to see another version where you can see where his sitting on.. but I'm not sure... This picture is great as it is!

Thanks!...Now that you mention lack of color,I wished I had thought to put him in a bright red shirt,or maybe green or yellow,How would that be? Maybe the sky will be as pretty tomorrow as it was today, and I can re-shoot. My poor child told me today that he didn't want me to take anymore pictures of him,ha...he is only 5...

This is an awesome image April! Sorry, but 1 thumb just doesn't do this justice! What I love about this:
1) The Sky is beautiful.
2) Your perspective.
3) The bright smile matches the sunny day!
Things that could improve the pic:
1) Maybe using a reflector instead of on camera flash.
2) Having your model (child) rotate so his head isn't casting the shadow on his shirt. This will also help give some cool shading to his face for contours.
Hope this makes sense!
Peace.
(2.78 thumbs!)

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you like it...I tried rotating his head many different directions, none did any good,a different location would have been ideal, but due to the fact that I wanted the clouds behind him gave me only one location.
I would like to try a reflector, what is that exactly? Would using foil or something metal be what you mean? Sorry to sound so stupid, but I have only begun to take my photography seriously this past year.

April, a reflector is a piece of material that does just that: reflect amounts of light back onto the subject. You can purchase them at any photograhy store, or make one of your own. Maybe foil onto cardbord, or something similar. You can get them in different colors, with white being the most common, but silver, gold, and white screen for diffusion too! Have fun!
Peace~

Another common item are the round fabric sun shades they sell for the front window of your car. They come in pairs and have a reflective/metallic side. They fold down to about 12 inches and pop open to about 30 inches.Also--the mylar metallic wrapping papers are cheaper than real foil and easy to attach to cardboard.

You sure were...taking advantage of that deep blue sky!! You must have been like a lunatic with a camera =) Some adjustments in lighting in post processing would really help this shot. If you don't have PS, let me know. I;d love to help. I'd toggle the lighting/shadows and decrease the contrast/sharpness a bit. Shot is a bit too bright, though, April. He's adorable!

Thanks! I did play around with it a bit, my laptop's moniter has the flat screen,so unless looking at it at the right level, things sometimes look darker to me. I guess that's why it looks bright:)... I will fix it!
Thanks Again!
April
