This is a good example of an early 16th Century converted warehouse building standing alongside one of the many canals in Amsterdam, which we came across whilst trundling around the place just after Christmas 2005. This was another neck breaker to capture, not an easy shot to take if you object to falling on your back in the process.

A similar building can be found here, which was also a neck breaking subject to photograph.

Canon RAW, converted in RSP, downsized with a small blob of USM added before uploading. Comments and critiques are warmly invited...........kind regards.......Steve.

Hi! I suggest to "polarize" the sky to make it a little more darker it would contrast nicely with the red windows and brick. I use Nik Color Efx pro to have that effect. Jose Paulo

Hi Jose Paulo......................nice to see you back here. Your suggestion sounds feasible indeed, despite the fact that I really deter from extreme manipulation and fooling viewers (I guess it's a throwback from my days in 35mm).........but I take your point. Thanks for your time........regards...Steve.

A classical Amsterdam view. The contrast between the dark bricks and the red windows makes the image very attractive. The perspective is good, considering that the narrow streets do not allow much options. Perhaps some tilt correction could be good. Nice shot anyway. Regards.

Hi Hector....nice to meet up again. Thanks for the positive critique.....much appreciated. Despite almost breaking my neck with this shot, and realising converging verticals would resuly, I did go through the 'lens correction' filter in CS2...quite effective, but I didn't care for the result as much. Thanks, however, for the thought......always useful and was a good input. Best wishes........Steve.

Interesting architecture a shot of this city Amsterdam radiates the one special flair. I like the narrow house with the red window shops and the blue brick-work a eyecatcher am .Are beautiful and clearly the satisfied colors, good focus and light . The sky works a little too brightly. Perhaps the perspective distortion with software could be repaired .Otherwise well done . Regards,Diana

Hi Diana....thanks for calling in, nice to meet up again : ))

Shooting upwards will always end up with coverging verticals..this I know, but rather than manipulate via 'perspective contol' in CS2, I actually wished to give the impression of converging into that rather 'bland 'sky. Suggestions accepted and recognised....with thanks. Kind regards, and thanks for your time.

Steve.

Well, here- I guess you had not broken your neck...hope I'm right....I like the red windows so much...they look happy to me..and I'm sure they make the street look happy as well...Sharpness is good.

Thanks..Dvori

Hi Dvori, thank you for looking in. There are quite a few warehouses in excellent condition skirting the canals, and yes.....this is similar to 'Good Morning Amesterdam'. Despite different shaped windows in other buildings, their shutters seem to follow a similar theme and colour, although I did find some coloured cream .....as in ice cream : ) This particular shot inspired me because reflections in each of the small windows to the left gave different pictures of a building opposite.............

Thanks for your time my friend. Best regards.....Steve.

Nice one Steve. Great blue / red combination is very strong and caught my eye immediately. Focus is sharp throughout and you managed to get rid of the white sky (always a pain). Having also trudged 'round the 'Dam a few times (and not yet submitted any shots) I think this is a good representative shot from a beautiful city. Regards, Simon.
