So much for science! I my youth I remember reading about the process of sucking an egg into a bottle...soak in vinegar until soft, fill bottle with hot water, pour water out, place egg on top of bottle, place bottle in cold water, as air in bottle cools a vacuum is created sucking egg into bottle. Well folks, it sucked, but instead of the egg, only the yolk and white were sucked in leaving the membrane atop the bottle.
Fun and challenging assignment to work with. Especially when trying to focus in almost total darkness.

Interesting shot ! It looks like it was photographed with a black light since the yolk appears fluorescent. Great attempt.

Richard, thanks for your thoughts. The tiny flashlight has 3 LED bulbs which is a substantial amount of light to be focused is such a small area. Yolks are translucent too, so the light is both reflective and transmitted from the yolk. Welcome to the SIG, I look forward to seeing your work. -Chrome

A good attempt at a fascinating abstract image. However, I felt that it would be more powerful if it were sharper and clearer. A 3 megapixel camera doesn't help, but I'm pretty sure it could be a little better with what you have. Either your focus was off or--more likely--you were took a 1/4 exposure without stabilization. It also looks pretty grainy for ISO 100. I may be way off base, or maybe this was intended. No matter, I feel that if you clean up these issues, you have potential for a 3TU image. The perspective and perceived compression of depth onto a flat plane, in combination with the colors and general bizarreness of the setup, are very intriguing. Nice, vision, but I think it could be realized a little better.

Toby thanks for kind and insightful comments. Indeed these images were hand held. The only convenient place to shoot was a card table with legs cut off to 14", much too short for my normal tripod. I tried to mount my camera to a devise designed to attach to smooth surfaces with a suction devise. Unfortunately it is so short and badly designed that prevented it from holding my small camera vertically. I think the noise is a function of the macro, the slow exposure. During this shoot, I used ISOs of 100 (as this one),200 and 400(the cameras fastest). 80 ISO is my slowest sensitivity. As a personal taste, I don't like grainy images. When I shoot film I use 25, 50, and 100 ASA. I suspect it dates back to my Photo 1 class where we only used Speed Graflex 4x5s and Panchromatic film. -Chrome
