Fun photograph. All I can add here given the comments already posted is that the background looks so interesting and colorful I would like to see more of it. F16 maybe? Anyhow that aside it is an unusual shot and nicely framed and the traveller is sharp and in focus. It looks like he/she has a straw coming out the head which is really the only thing I would suggest changing - you can keep the F8 since you are lucky enough to see this scenery with your own eyes. And yes it adds good empashis to the happy hound. Cheers.
and thanks for the recent critique - most helpful.

Appreciated this thorough critique Blaize..many thanks. Referring to the straw..well spotted. I had noticed it before posting, and trying to clone it out made more of a mess.......that area is a trifle busy ! but thanks for the suggestion.
I took a shot of the buildings in the BG from a few yards away from this one..so if you want a look...just click this link which will open up the shot in a new window......meanwhile, thanks indeed for the return crit. Kind regards...Steve.

Hello dear Rosemarie..........it's super to receive your critique and it's good to bring a bit of lighthearted stuff to Photosig, with the hint of Amsterdam too. He loved the place even though it was bitterly cold. I'll have to buy him a hat because Istanbul is his next adventure..and I've a feeling it will be hotter than here..... -1C !!!
Take care my friend, and many thanks for your time. My best wishes......Steve.

Steve - lovely to see HP still travelling. Last time I "heard" from him he was in North Devon. How he manages to stay so clean and smiley jammed up against the wet wheel is just amazing...LOL The background buildings and boats on the water are enough to convince me he really IS in Amsterdam. Thanks for the fun, Steve - some more light heartedness is such a welcome thing to see on PhotoSIG.
I look forward to the next holiday "postcard" from Istanbul.

Hello Bora my friend.........I'm delighted that Happy Puppy made you smile. It's merely a bit of light fun to share as you know, but it is also pleasing that thanks to all the critiquers, Happy Puppy actually made the Main Page, so he is bringing a little bit of harmless fun into the Community, which makes me feel good too !!
Glad you liked this one my friend.......HP will be in my shirt top pocket when we arrive in Instanbul next month....can't wait to get there !! My best regards..........Steve.

This is a very nice photo Steve with alot of colour, but however the focus on the buildings is poor and needs some improvement. Also there should be more than just a bear and bike should be taken a bit futher away.

Hi Matthew.........thanks for your observations and suggestions. I guess I really wanted to share Happy Puppy with the Community and at the same time giving them a brief glimpse of Amsterdam as the backdrop..........standing further away and chosing say f/16 would have destroyed the effect I was trying to achieve. However, I also respect your suggestion and thank you for it.
Kind regards.........Steve.

Hi Steve,13 is not a good number in my culture and till now your point is 13,so i am going to change it to 16 if possible! :-)I like this shot and its composition, your title and comments under the shot are very good too, sharpness and colors of your shot are very nice, but i think a much more blurred background and perhaps a closer view works much better, greetings and best wishes,Mohamad.PS:I watched your shot again, regarding to the title and visiting Amsterdam, the background is well and if more blurred it would not be well seen.

I'm glad you changed your mind about the blurred BG, because although I wanted to create a bit of light entertainment, I also wanted to show viewers a glimpse of Amsterdam, so didn't want an more shallow background. Hi Steve!
The sharpness and detail on the bike, the puppy and the railing are just unbelievable. Also the colours of the background are so very good - I also love the look of the unfocused buildings.
Nothing much to do any better IMO ... you might consider cropping away some from the right to get rid of the pier(?) with white railings and stuff, also some darker parts of the background.
Cheers!
Petri

Hi Petri.......many thanks for your kind words. I'm pleased you liked the picture overall. Funny that you mention the pier (lock gate actually) because I had originally cropped to a square format to get rid of the RHS, but that put Happy Puppy dead centre which took much of the atmosphere away.............good suggestion though. Kind regards and thanks for your time.............Steve.

Makes me think of Flat Stanley. I can't imagine Happy Puppy was enjoying the cold or the wet. Anyway, good use of the bike to frame the canal. It's unfortunate the barge behind him has blown highlights - they're distracting. Good sharpness on the foreground and good color and contrast throughout. The sky looks like it could benefit from the use of a polarizer. A fun image.
