This is a strong dramatic portrait in black and white. I like where his eyes are pointing and the pensive expression on his face. Very serene.

I think you got a little too close for your focus, though. His nose and forehead are losing sharpness.

I think I would clone out his ear on the left. With his hair separating it from his head it looks superfluous, like it's on its own. It's such a small space it won't detract from the mood or his face if it's gone.

Decent attempt. I like the angle and the negative space. I could do with less flat light and better focus on his eyes. Focus is more on the beard and mouth. Since you already have put focus on his face, by having it 'floating' in emptyness, I'd be tempted to tone down the ear and perhaps clone out his neck, on the right.
