I have been wondering about with my 180 Macro lens the last few frosty mornings. Its best with flat two dimensional things because of the shallow DOF but very sharp.

Nice shot, Harold,

Did you try a square crop - chopping off the right? Makes the shot into a much bolder abstract composition.

Cheers, r

This is a great natural abstract shot! I like the incredible details , you have the leaf looking almost like a lizard skin! that is very sharp looking, nice warm colors, and the white highlites the leaf very well ! well seen , and no suggestions on how to improve this! regards robert

Hi Harold, this is one that I would enjoy on my wall all year. I am glad you went wondering with your Macro lens, LOL. The colors of fall are my favorite and you have done a beautiful job of capturing them here and accenting them with the frost. Carole

I love fall as well, although I always have the thought that there is the monster to follow it.

Thanks for the kind words, Carole

I have just noticed the spelling in the comments. I guess I was wandering as I was wondering :~)

No, but I like the expression.

I like the Australian expression when they say someone has gone "walkabout" meaning to go out seeing people and things without a set goal. Very worthwhile!

Hi Harold. Very sharp lens you have as the detail is really good. The colors are bold but natural. Great finding an incomplete leaf to bring out a meandering frost line. I only wish you had gotten that whole little edge point at the top complete. :)robin

Thanks, Robin

It does look a bit interrupted. When I included the whole leaf but it seemed to have too much negative space butr there may be a better solution.

Plain beauty, crispy sharp, almost an abstract in bright autumn fire covered with frost, the embassador of coming darkness - but still resisting in an outburst of colors! I like the closeup and the narrow crop, the reddish dominated leaf in front of the greenish background. Fine composition, great work. I feel the white line in your framing is kind of in conflict with the frost line framing your leaves, but that's a minor problem.

Thanks, Ulrich, and I think you have a great way with words.

A subtle point on the framing, and a good one.

Very nice - I like the way that the white frost encirles the leaf the way that it does. Perhaps a simpler background (fewer other leaves) would have made for a slightly stronger background - more focus on the primary subject. Nice job.

You may be right about that. I'll have a try.

Fabulous image. Technically excellent. Very good depth of field and exposure. Focus is perfect. Compositionally, it flows well, and the eye isn't drawn to any bad parts, with the possible exception of a slight bit of frost along the top border, to the right. Color saturation is excellent. Thanks for sharing it!

I guess I better get this now before my color palette available turns to white :~)
