Situated between Innerleithen and Tweedsmuir in the Scottish Borders, Megget reservoir was built in the 1980s (completed 1983) to supplement Edinburgh's water supply, since the older reservoirs were no longer adequate to meet current and projected demand. It was built by damming a valley at a narrow point. Farms and dwellings in the valley bottom had to be moved, along with a historic ruin of a Scottish Tower house (Cramalt tower). The operators of the reservoir had to provide new housing and have the responsibility of disposing of sewage from the dwellings and sheep-dip used on the farms (mostly devoted to sheep rearing). Farming and forestry activities in the catchment are monitored to ensure that there is no use of chemicals which could damage the water supply. This is a re-submission on one of older images, with consideration given to a few of the comments made at the time. I hope you like my latest submission and as usual your crits are most welcome. Thanks again for viewing. Best regards, Gavin

Nice shot with beautifull colours contrast. The water reflection is not sharp possibly as a result of some brize on the water. Regards

Thanks for your kind words. This is a vast reservoir and as a result is open to the elements, especially some light wind. It's just about impossible to obtain a smoot surface. However, some good cloud detail made up for that. Thanks again and appreciate your comments. Best wishes, Gavin

This is terrific! I know the area Gavin and you have created a magical picture of a beautiful spot. The impression conveyed to me is almost surreal! The wonderful reflections on the Loch suggest the landed area is suspended and at the point of "take-off" !!What an imagination !!Very artistic capture I.M.H.O Keep up this lovely work. Best regards. Sheena..

Hi Gavin, IMO this is equally as good as the original. I like the dramatic effect and the amount of interest in the image with the colourful scenery and the cloud formation. A nice angle chosen as well. Very pleasing. Regards, Elaine

I don't know that this is a big improvement on the original submission. It looks a somewhat over-contrasty and over-saturated (OK, the original is a little flat ...). I think you might have stopped about 2/3 of the way from there to here.

On to what matters ... this is a terrific image (though living in Scotland gives you an unfair advantage, you can wait for the weather to cooperate). Well composed and well chosen camera location to get the sheltered/smooth water surface.

Hi Mike, nice to see a wide range of opinions here! My intention here was to go for something a bit more dramatic. Contrast and saturation wasn't applied ! Only adjusting levels in selected places. Thanks for your kind words and thoughts and for the " added " link to the original. Best wishes, Gavin

A very impressive capture of this colorful and dramatic landscape with an almost surreal character. I like especially the forderground ot water area -looks like a painting - and the strong contrast of colors, light and dark areas and so on, but the land in the back could be just a little sharper IMNHO. Regards, Hara

Hi Hara, first of all thanks for your kind words, I'm glad you like it. I thought that the background was just the correct sharpening IMO, and a previous crit thought the other way! Isn't photography wonderful!!! Thanks and take care, Gavin

A wonderful photo. The only problem I have with it is that the eye doesn't know what to look at. There is no center of focus. It also appears to be a little over sharpened. I might crop a little off the bottom as well. However, all in all, quite well done.

Hi Martin, thanks for your appreciative crit. I certainly didn't want to oversharpen and boosted the image by 70% in USM. It was always a shot that lent itself IMO, to try various other options. Thanks again. Best regards, Gavin
